The state cabinet approved the setting up of a second garbage treatment plant at Cacora in Curchorem at the cost of Rs 189 crore and enhancing the capacity of the solid waste management plant at Saligao from 150 to 250 tonnes at the cost of Rs 89 crore

Sources said the Carora plant will be financed by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at a low interest rate. The government is also expected to approach NABARD for funds for expansion of the Saligao plant under a new scheme. Both projects have environmental clearance from the state environment impact assessment authority and consent from the Goa state pollution control board

Panchayats minister Mauvin Godinho told that the details of both projects are being worked out. “They have selected the agency, decided the process and approved the cost for the project,” he said

Sources said that the government is on track for setting up of garbage treatment plants at Bainguinim and Verna
